Study 2
Fugue for Violin and Violincello
This is the second in a planned series of 10-15 studies, focusing on specific instruments and compositional techniques.
My goals with this piece were as follows.
- fugue structure
- strong melodic hooks
- some chromaticism
- some quartal and other modern harmonic touches
- some blues and jazz influences
- rhythmic drive
- strong ending
I didn't go quite as far as I planned with the modern harmonic touches, but I'm still pretty happy with the result.
My professors both liked it, but no sound bites this time!😀
The next one is well underway, a full string quartet, so lots more opportunity for harmonic exploration.
