About
I am a composer, writer, musician, and retired software developer. After spending five decades pursuing a career and raising a family, I now have the luxury of pursuing my first love, music. This opportunity is a gift for which I am highly grateful.
I did not follow a traditional path to get here. Toward the tail end of a long career in IT, writing software, building systems, and fulfilling leadership responsibilities, I began studying music composition with a professor at the University of Wisconsin. We began with the Palestrina/Fux rules for counterpoint, then moved on to inventions, fugues, sonatas, and on from there.
I've always been a sort of cross-disciplinary person, with lots of different interests. And my compositions reflect that. For example, I wrote a Blues Fugue. Is it a blues song? Is it a Baroque-inspired fugue?
I'm tempted by but resistant to the idea of blogging here, writing about other things in the realms of politics and culture. There are many outrageous things happening in our own backyard right now. But there are many voices out there advocating for the causes of peace and justice. For the time being, I will leave it to them. One can only spread oneself so thin; focus is mandatory. Perhaps I will write some book appreciations.
I retired at the end of 2025, and am full of energy and ideas to continue exploring new musical structures and sonorities. Please take a listen and leave a comment; I'm eager for feedback!
